How'd They Know I Want To Go There?

 Blog By Gordon Weller
Associate Creative Director

Just read about this new software tool from Sense Networks, called Macrosense. It allows users to predict tourism levels and consumer traffic patterns based on GPS data. They're saying that it could "redefine what we know about consumer behavior, giving businesses early insight into economic trends, better ways to determine sites for offices and retail stores, and more effective ways to advertise." Now, my associate creative director side is definitely intrigued by the whole idea. It sounds like something that could definitely help us (and our clients) out at Push. I could see plenty of uses for data that shows us where traffic is coming from and where it likes to go before and after visiting a client's location. But my family guy, consumer side says, "Whoa, are we getting a little too creepy, stalker-like here? I got my GPS to find my way, not to become a science experiment." This seems to be technology that is definitely walking the fine line between cool and intrusive. Thoughts?

Intrusive? Not exactly. Common lets face it, we all know that our lives really aren't as private as we'd want it to be. "THE PEOPLE" will always kow stuff about us.... But on the upside, this can really PUSH target marketing and advertising into the effectiveness we've all dreamed it to be. Consumers are downright unpredictable in their capricous goings every second of everyday. But I don't think it will take us all the way into understanding the undefinable pattern of consumer behaviour, unless we could pull Proffessor Charles Xavier into the advertising industry and coerce him to focus on humans and not mutants then yes we might have a solid chance. Convince him that the money he makes will be donated to a Mutants Foundation Fund, that should do the trick. :)

Oh Jamie your genius is only matched by Charles Xavier. You?re totally correct there is so much more he could do besides read pathetic consumer?s minds. He happens to be one of the world?s most powerful mutants and with his ability to read, influence and control minds, the industry could have consumers buying products at will. Lets also not forget that he?s a scientific genius and the leading authority in genetics, mutation and psionic powers. With his genetic studies the industry can create a new consumer market. One that will eat, shop and consume more of the client?s products then ever before. The most important part to him joining an agency is that the Professor can become a psychologist to the creative teams, providing a safe haven for them to master their crafts, control their egos and become an elite team of super creatives. The upside to having Charles working for any agency is limitless. Of course there is that little problem of brining him to life.
