I am getting that question a lot this week as I prepare to take part in my first Pecha Kucha Night held this Wednesday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville. As a presenter, I had to quickly familiarize myself with this unique format for delivering a creative presentation. The constraints: show 20 slides for 20 seconds apiece (20 x 20) for a total length of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. A couple of my friends had taken part in Pecha Kucha Nights in New York City and Seoul but I needed to refresh my memory about the history and finer points of PK...

Give Plants a Chance

Orlando Farmers Market came to Push with the dilemma of decreasing attendance and little money to do anything about it. We felt that printing paper ads and flyers contradicted the Farmers Market’s environmentally friendly nature. So being Push, we took a step back and thought about the problem differently. We came to the conclusion that the biggest victim of no one showing up at the downtown Farmers Market wasn’t the Farmers Market, its vendors or even its entertainment. The biggest victim was all the really cool stuff for sale that was being neglected at best, and rotting to a slow, nasty death at worst. The plants were wilting. The fruits were rotting. The popcorn was staling. And the only place the fresh squeezed lemonade, fresh brewed coffee and fresh tapped beer were flowing was right down the drain. We, along with the Farmers Market, couldn’t stand by and watch the suffering any longer. . .

Push recently revamped Tijuana Flats' Webby Award-winning website to allow for more frequent updates and more dynamic content. The updates allow the background of the homepage to change so the website's look and feel corresponds with each Tijuana Flats in-store promotion. This way visitors will receive the same message from the website that they see inside the restaurants. Additional updates include an interactive guestbook where visitors can submit a drawing with their comments and quirky E-cards that can be sent to invite friends to lunch.

At Push we believe in truly understanding the ins and outs of our clients’ business by being as involved as possible. This month we threw our Tijuana Flats team to the weeds of a busy lunch shift.

Three Pushers spent the day greeting guests, delivering food, busing tables and bagging to-go orders. After their busy lunch shift, the team returned to Push with a few hot sauce stains on their shirts, but more importantly, a better understanding of the restaurant’s day-to-day operations. This experience will most definitely be helpful as the team begins planning upcoming promotions and marketing plans for the restaurant.

34 Days with the iPhone

I have been using the iPhone now for about a month – 34 days to be exact. I was one of “those” that got in line at 3 A.M., but I did avoid all the activation issues that ensued later that day. I have always had the generic phone even though in my line of work, I need to always be online.

Before I switched over to AT&T, I was with Sprint for seven years. I was satisfied with Sprint - never had any problems and tried to stay with them even longer. They have their new toy out from Samsung called Instinct. I had the phone for about a week before the honeymoon was over. The phone functioned well, but it had the most aggravating web browser. I could not view some very basic sites because of its lack of full support for JavaScript. The web browser was the deal breaker and since the new iPhone was coming out soon, I left Sprint for AT&T to get the tried and true, iPhone.

The iPhone truly is a great phone. I don’t think there is any arguing there. Sure I have minor issues with it, but it is a very fun device to own and has increased my productivity.

There have been some people that have regretted the upgrades, but I don’t share their same thoughts. . .

Push develops website

Since its humble beginnings in the late 1800s, Asbury Park, New Jersey has been the cat’s pajamas, the bee’s knees and most certainly as fine as cream gravy, to quote the vernacular of the time. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was the launching pad for some of America’s top rock bands, including Bruce Sprinsteen and Bon Jovi. But just like the scent of aerosol hair spray fades, so did the allure of Asbury Park and its famed boardwalk. Today Madison Marquette is working hard to rekindle the public's love affair with the Jersey Shore by redeveloping the famous boardwalk and bringing the charm back to Asbury Park.

Push, in collaboration with Hydra Studio, is pleased to be a part of these changes with the design and development of a new website. TheAsburyParkBoardwalk.com was designed  to visually showcase the rock ‘n’ roll history of Asbury Park, while offering resources for ongoing Asbury Park news and events. The website utilizes a hybrid of Flash, HTML and PHP environments to create a searchable, dynamic platform that can be bookmarked and networked throughout the Web. The site has a modern rock ‘n’ roll theme combined with the many historical visuals associated with Asbury Park and its influence on American music and seaside lifestyles.

CrackBerry - Are We Too Connected?

With an increase in social networking and unlimited access to the Internet, there has been a surge in "statusing" and a need for constant connectivity. Because of this need for connectivity some, and even most, people seem to suffer from a touch of separation anxiety - yes, you need to turn off your phone while on an airplane. Many work in offices that have people who are hard-core addicts, and you can watch them fidget when they are away from their computers, fearing the world has moved on without them. They have become so obsessed they can barely carry on a conversation when you encounter them in the hall because they haven't checked their email or updated their status in 20 seconds.

Is this obsession contributing to a decrease in productivity? Some companies believe if they ban personal Internet use in the workplace, they will actually be helping to improve overall productivity at work. However, a report by PopCap Games claims the exact opposite. . .
